LED in business premises: payback and tax benefit

BusinessReading time: 4 minutesUpdated: September 2026

In business premises the lights burn far more hours than at home. That is exactly why replacing fluorescent or halogen lighting with LED is often the measure that pays for itself fastest, certainly combined with the tax schemes.

1. The sum is simple

LED lamps use 85 percent less energy to produce the same light as traditional bulbs, and last over 100,000 burning hours against 10,000 for an energy-saving lamp. In a hall lit twelve hours a day, that difference adds up fast. We calculate the saving per fitting.

2. The Energy Investment Allowance

LED lighting is on the Dutch Energy Investment Allowance list. Businesses can therefore deduct 55.5 percent of the investment from taxable profit, on top of normal depreciation. That means less income or corporation tax and a considerably lower net investment.

  • 85 percent less use than incandescent bulbs
  • Over 100,000 burning hours
  • 55.5 percent deduction through the EIA
  • Combine with presence detection

3. More than just swapping lamps

The biggest gain is often in the combination: LED plus presence detection plus daylight control. Then the light burns only where someone is and only as brightly as needed. In halls with roof windows or light tubes the lighting can even be largely off during the day. Our energy coach includes this in the advice for your premises.

In practice this subject belongs with heat pump maintenance and solar water heaters. There you can read how we work and what is possible, or you can request a no-obligation quote straight away.

Tip from the engineer

When in doubt, always ask for a no-obligation advice session. Half an hour of looking on site says more than ten brochures, and you commit to nothing.
