A home battery: when is it worth it?

Home batteryReading time: 4 minutesUpdated: September 2026

More and more customers ask about a home battery. Understandably: solar panels deliver most in the middle of the day, while you use most electricity in the evening. A battery bridges that gap. But it is not worthwhile in every situation.

1. What a home battery does

A home battery stores the electricity you generate during the day but do not use straight away. In the evening you take it back out instead of buying from the grid. Your own use of self-generated power rises considerably. Among other projects, we installed Enphase 5P Flexphase batteries at a home in Drunen.

2. When it pays off

Storage becomes more attractive as feed-in payments fall and the gap between purchase and feed-in prices grows. With a dynamic contract you can also charge the battery when power is cheap. If you have a heat pump or charge an electric car, your own consumption is already high and the gain is smaller.

  • Storage raises your own consumption
  • More attractive when feed-in payments are low
  • Watch usable capacity and charging cycles
  • Installation needs space and ventilation

3. What to watch out for

Watch the usable capacity, not just the nominal one, and the number of charging cycles the manufacturer guarantees. Look at the location too: a battery needs space and ventilation and must be installed safely. We assess that during the survey and calculate what storage delivers in your situation.

In practice this subject belongs with sales and installation and daylight systems. There you can read how we work and what is possible, or you can request a no-obligation quote straight away.

Tip from the engineer

When in doubt, always ask for a no-obligation advice session. Half an hour of looking on site says more than ten brochures, and you commit to nothing.
